Cheshmeh Ali

The Late Neolithic and Chalcolithic village of Cheshmeh Ali in northern Iran was excavated by archaeologist Erich Schmidt from 1934-1936. Although Schmidt only published brief preliminary reports on his work at the site, Cheshmeh Ali is widely cited in the archaeological literature because of its importance in establishing the prehistoric chronology of Iran. This website presents the results of a collaborative publication project preparing a final report on Schmidt’s excavations using his field notes, photographs, and plans.
